Kaieteur News – Upstream Online – ExxonMobil has resumed exploration work in the Stabroek Block offshore Guyana, as the US supermajor has been focusing activity lately on drilling development wells for a series of projects due to enter production in the next few years.
ExxonMobil, in April 2022, encountered approximately 70 metres of hydrocarbon-bearing sandstone reservoirs with the Barreleye-1 wildcat. The well was drilled in 1170 metres of water and 32 kilometres southeast of the giant Liza field.
According to updated information provided by Guyana’s Maritime Administration Department (MARAD), ExxonMobil is currently drilling the Barreleye-2 appraisal well.
The Barreleye-2 campaign is taking place with the Stena Drilling drillship Stena Carron and is due for completion in late July. The well is situated about 186 kilometres from the Guyanese coast.
ExxonMobil, which operates the Stabroek Block with a 45% stake, has already discovered more than 11 billion barrels of oil equivalent in recoverable resources in the area.
The company is currently producing about 650,000 barrels per day of oil in Guyana via the Liza Destiny, Liza Unity and Prosperity floating production, storage and offloading vessels at the Liza and Payara fields.
Three additional FPSOs — One Guyana, Errea Wittu and Jaguar — have already been contracted to serve the Yellowtail, Uaru and Whiptail developments, respectively, in the Stabroek block.
ExxonMobil is also seeking approval for its seventh and eighth projects — Hammerhead and Longtail — that are expected to enter operation in Guyana in 2029 and 2030.
