Kaieteur News – On Tuesday, AFC leader and prominent attorney Nigel Hughes condemned the actions of the ranks at the Wismar Police Station, Linden who took hours to take an eyewitness account from a resident.

Attorney Nigel Hughes said he was made to wait hours with an eyewitness to give a statement at Wismar Police Station.
Hughes and the witness were forced to wait hours at the police station to give a statement about a shooting death that took place earlier in the day.
The attorney accompanied the witness, who said he saw a police officer draw his gun and shoot 32-year-old Keon Fogenay, also known as ‘Dan,’ in the eye, killing him.
At the station, Hughes said the ranks refused to take the statement.
“We have been out here for an hour and a half after having notified the commander of the region that we have an eyewitness who saw a police officer dressed in khaki shoot at the public today. I have indicated to the commander that I have an eyewitness and that he is prepared to give a statement tonight.”
Hughes said the commander indicated that he would send an officer from the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR). “He is yet to arrive, and I rather suspect that the police expect us to get tired. I will be here with this witness for as long as it takes the police to record a crime against one of their own,” he said on a live Facebook post.
Accompanying Hughes also were Member of Parliament Devon Sears and RDC Chairman Mark Goring.
A massive protest erupted Tuesday morning in the mining town over the brutal killing of 21-year-old Ronaldo Peters. The protest took a tragic turn when another man was shot in the eye and killed during a standoff between ranks and residents at the Wismar Bridge.
Peters was reportedly shot Monday evening and dumped in a minibus by a police sergeant dressed in plain clothes.
Meanwhile, Fogenay was shot when police opened fire at the protesters. He was taken to the Linden Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
