Kaieteur Sports- The Region Three leg of the Janet and Cheddi Jagan Memorial Windball Cricket Competition continued at the Parika Salem Community Ground with several boys’ and girls’ fixtures.
In the opening match, Zeeburg Secondary secured a dominant 10-wicket victory over Leonora Secondary in a low-scoring contest. Batting first, Leonora managed 31-4 in their allotted overs. In response, Zeeburg’s openers chased down the target comfortably without losing a wicket.
In another encounter, West Demerara Secondary suffered an eight-wicket defeat after posting 40-2. Vreed-en-Hoop Secondary raced to the target, losing just two wickets along the way.
Meanwhile, Parika Salem Secondary defeated De Willem Secondary by nine wickets. De Willem set a target of 43 runs, which Parika Salem chased down with ease, reaching 47-1 with balls to spare.
Over in the boys’ competition, Parika Salem Secondary, West Demerara Secondary, and Stewartville Secondary all registered victories. Parika Salem kicked off their campaign with an eight-wicket win over Zeeburg Secondary. West Demerara, led by Jeremiah Garnett’s match-winning 21 runs, secured a 10-wicket victory over Vreed-en-Hoop after posting 33-3.
While in the final game, Leonora Secondary posted 36-7, with Devon Harry (3-3) and Muneshwar Henry (2-5) leading an impressive bowling effort to restrict them to under 40 runs. In reply, Stewartville Secondary’s Elisha Ramdat played a brilliant innings, scoring 31 runs to guide his team to victory. Stewartville finished on 40 without loss.
The tournament is organised by Sports Officer A. Munroe and is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, along with the National Sports Commission.
