-Shuttle Strikers crowned inaugural winners
Kaieteur Sports- Badminton Pan Am and the Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) launched their inaugural AirBadminton Tournament on March 22, at St. Cuthbert’s Mission with Shuttle Strikers being crowned first ever champions.
The location was chosen as part of GBA’s ongoing development efforts, following the programme’s launch back in 2022 which saw a number of communities, schools and institutions being introduced to the exciting format of the sport while being recipients of equipment and gear.
The format allows players to do battle on hard, grass and sandy surfaces, while places such as gardens, streets, playgrounds and beaches, further mark conducive spots for playing.
GBA initiative aligns with the global vision to expand the sport, with AirBadminton now making badminton accessible to people of all ages and abilities.
The GBA lauded Toshao Mr. Alvaro Simon, along with the St. Cuthbert’s Mission Council and the entire community for welcoming and supporting this historic event launch.
Played under the triples format (one girl, two boys) with no age restrictions, each team was led by a girl with teammates being selected through a random draw by the team respective skipper’s.
