Kaieteur News- Twenty-five-year-old Shaquawn Alleyne, also known as “ISWE Boss,” has been committed to stand trial for the murder of his girlfriend, Shonette Dover.
The decision was made on Thursday during proceedings at the Linden Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Rushelle Liverpool. The court concluded that there was sufficient evidence for Alleyne to face trial at the Demerara Assizes.
Alleyne, between April 3 and 30, 2021, shot 19-year-old Dover to death and buried her body in a shallow grave in his backyard at Canvas City, Wismar, Linden, Region Ten. He was arrested on January 19, 2024 at Moleson Creek in Corentyne, Berbice.
It was reported that Dover’s decomposing body was discovered on April 30, 2021, 28 days after she went missing. Alleyne had initially fooled the victim’s relatives and the public by portraying himself as a heartbroken, innocent man deeply concerned about his girlfriend’s disappearance. He reported her missing on April 4, 2021, claiming he had no knowledge of her whereabouts and assumed she had left for work. Alleyne later fled the jurisdiction and a wanted bulletin was issued for him.
Meanwhile, Dover’s 15-year-old relative later confessed to helping Alleyne bury her body and subsequently led police to the burial site. The relative was charged with accessory after the fact of murder and was remanded to the Juvenile Detention Centre. A post-mortem examination conducted on Dover’s remains confirmed that she died from a single gunshot wound to the head.
After being on the run for nearly three years, Alleyne was apprehended by Suriname authorities in 2024, who handed him over to Guyanese authorities. While in custody, Alleyne reportedly confessed to the crime, claiming it was an accident.
Alleyne made his first appearance at the Linden Magistrates’ Court on January 23, 2024, via Zoom before Magistrate Wanda Fortune. He was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison.
