2025 CWI Regional 4-Day Championships Round 4…GHE vs. JS Day 3
-Chanderpaul (74), Anderson (50)
Kaieteur Sports- A resurgent unbeaten ton from Kirk Mckenzie kept the Jamaica Scorpions in the hunt as they face an uphill final day task of acquiring 310-runs for what will be a historic victory against defending champs Guyana Harpy Eagles, following an intense third day at Sabina Park.
Set at a mammoth 489 to win, Jamaica who were rattled for just 44 u in the first innings, were 179-3 trailing by 310 runs batting a second time.
Mckenzie was the rock of the innings, slamming 5 sixes while punching 9 fours as he carried his score to 104* off 147 balls and will be the key for his team today alongside overnight partner, Javelle Glenn (5*) and company.
His 132-run 3rd wicket partnership with Brandon King, who replied with a classy 53 (8×4), gave Jamaica the ideal platform needed to pull off an impossible heist or stave off a Guyana win.
Fast-bowler Ronaldo Alimohamed, who snapped up 6 wickets in the first innings, will be gunning his maiden 10-fer, after wrapping up the third day with returns of 2-31 while Gudakesh Motie (1-24) grabbed his first of the game.
Tagenarine Chanderpaul (74) returned to form with his 19th first class fifty after Guyana resumed on 68-1 with his overnight score of 37 and Tevin Imlach (31) on 17, sitting on a massive 250-plus lead.
The Champs eventually declared on 193-3, pushing the lead close to the 500-run mark. Chanderpaul played his usual innings with a bit more aggression, reaching his half-century with Guyana in a strong position before being trapped by Mindley.
Imlach then mistimed a delivery from Smith and was caught by Brandon King, leaving the pair of Anderson and Kemol Savory (25*) to finish the mission.
The afternoon sessions before Tea psychologically belonged to Guyana, who by then had taken their lead well past the 450-run mark, with Anderson itching closer to another 50-plus score in the match.
Shortly after reaching his half-century off 85 balls, the declaration came, leaving both batsmen unbeaten and their team in an incredible position to secure another commanding win.
Action on the final day bowls off from 11:00h. (C. Ross)
(Mckenzie ton keeps Scorpions anchored, as they trail Eagles by 310-runs)
