Dear Editor,
I would be grateful if you could provide me with a platform in your newspaper to discuss a complex issue that, with careful planning and collaboration, can easily be resolved.
For the past several months, the alternative route of the railway highway has been inaccessible due to road construction and heavy-duty equipment. The traffic light at Ogle on the Rupert Craig highway has been a major source of congestion, causing lengthy delays that extend all the way to Sheriff Street every evening between 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm.
Despite efforts by the Sparendaam Police Station, Traffic Department to manage the flow, the lack of police presence at the junction after 6:00 pm has led to significant traffic buildup especially since the Railway Embankment is impassable due to the widening of the road.
I strongly advise the authorities to reassess the timing and traffic sensors of all traffic lights on the East Coast of Demerara. The traffic lights are not designed to handle low opposing traffic and are not synchronized to handle peak hour demands.
Editor, I earnestly appeal to the authorities to prioritize this issue and implement effective measures, particularly as the volume of vehicles on our roads continues to increase every month.
Sincerely,
A. Sani
