Kaieteur Sports- The Western Tigers Football Club, one of the most storied sports clubs locally, is set to celebrate its 50th anniversary in March 2025, marking half a century of excellence, community spirit, and sporting achievement. Founded in March 1975 by Godfrey Perry and Allan Walker, the club has grown into a cornerstone of the local sports landscape, nurturing generations of talent and fostering a deep sense of camaraderie among its members.
The milestone celebrations will honour the club’s rich history, with veteran Western icon Colin Tasher playing a pivotal role in organizing the festivities. Tasher, a beloved figure in the club’s legacy, has been instrumental in preserving the Tigers’ traditions and ensuring the anniversary celebrations reflect the club’s enduring spirit.

In a heartwarming gesture, the club’s overseas alumni have contributed to the next generation of Tigers by donating kits, uniforms, and balls to the Under-16 and Under-13 teams. This donation continues a proud tradition of giving back, ensuring that young players have the resources they need to thrive on and off the field.
The Western Tigers’ journey began in 1975 when founders Godfrey Perry and Allan Walker envisioned a club that would not only compete at the highest levels but also serve as a hub for the community’s engagement and youth development.
Over the decades, the club located on Mandela Avenue, West Ruimveldt, has remained true to its roots, producing standout athletes that would have represented at the highest order. The Georgetown club has maintained a strong connection with its alumni, many of whom have gone on to achieve success in various fields.
As the countdown to the 50th anniversary begins, the Western Tigers are planning a series of events to commemorate the occasion, including exhibition matches, community outreach programmes, and a gala dinner to honour past and present members. The celebrations will not only reflect on the club’s achievements but also recommit to the resurrection of new stars and recreating the image of local football through profile building and athletes’ investments.
For the Western Tigers, the 50th anniversary is more than just a milestone, it’s a testament to the enduring power of sport to unite, inspire, and transform lives.
