Kaieteur News-Dem boys seh some people got two kind of brains—one for overseas and one for Guyana. Yuh ever notice how de same man who does fling he empty food box or or empty beverage bottle through de car window in Guyana does suddenly turn eco-friendly when he land in America or Canada? Not a sweetie paper does drop from he hand!
In dem fancy countries, he know exactly where de bin deh. He does walk five blocks, climb three stairs, and pass two dogs just to find a garbage can. But in Guyana, he see one bin and seh, “Nah, de road more convenient.”
De man at home does treat de car like he palace. De whole family does eat curry and roti in de back seat, and when dem done, everything does go flying through de window. Plastic cup, napkin, even de leftover roti skin. But he yard clean, eh? Not even one dry leaf outside. Is like he got two personalities: “Mr. Clean Yard” at home and “Public Litter Bug” on de road.
Dem boys seh is like some people believe public spaces is a big garbage can. De same people who vex when de market flood and stink water reach dem ankle. But ask dem how de drain block. Plastic bottle and bag dem throw in de trench like is fish dem feeding.
Funny thing, when dem fly out to New York or Toronto, dem suddenly turn angelic. De man who use to toss he chip bag out he minibus in Guyana now does hold it in he pocket till he find a bin. He does even recycle! Imagine dat!
Dem boys seh Guyanese need to stop behaving like Jekyll and Hyde. If yuh could keep America clean, try a ting fuh keep Guyana clean too.
Talk half. Leff half.
(Guyanese is bin-smart abroad, but not at home)
