-Imlach, Paul fifties in vain
Guyana Harpy Eagles vs. Windward Islands Volcanoes
Kaieteur Sport- Half-centuries from Guyana Harpy Eagles captain Tevin Imlach and Vice-captain Keemo Paul failed to get their team the W, as they fell victim to some daring batting courtesy of the Windward Islands Volcanoes batsmen who helped script a daring 1-wicket win.
In a match which went down to the final over at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy Ground, Imlach stroked 65 off 67 with five fours and solitary maximum, while Paul pummeled the bowling at the back end with a 29-ball unbeaten 54, decorated with six sixes and a four.
Opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul (49) missed out on a half-century while Kevlon Anderson (42) and Matthew Nandu (34) helped add to the Eagles daunting 274-5 after 50 overs, with Shadrack Descarte (2-53) the only Windward bowler to escape punishment.
Fifties from Descarte who returned to score a vital 60 (7×4 1×6) and top-scorer wicket-keeper Dillon Douglas who led with 90 (8×4 2×6), pushed Volcanoes home as they ended on 277-9 with three balls left.
Later innings knocks from Daryl Cyrus (29) and an unbroken lower-order partnership between Kenneth Dember (20*) and Gilson Tyson (17*) saw the game to the end.
Returning pacer Nial Smith (3-46), Kevin Sinclair (2-66) led the Eagles bowling. Guyana will play their next match against Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) on October 31.
