Dear Editor,
The ERC has criticized the actions of a police officer in a hinterland church service noise nuisance complaint, without, it seems, a full investigation (SN September 30).
So speaking from one side of its mouth the ethnic relations body felt, that while the police has a duty to investigate complaints, in this instance, it could have been done ‘less disruptive to the church service’. But from the other side of its mouth the body promises a thorough investigation into the matter. So on what basis was the criticism of the actions of the police officer based on? Was the relations body caught in a dilemma and resorted to appeasing the church by being critical of the police officer?
The thorough investigation is awaited. Hope it would not be like that other supposed investigation against a high ranking political party operative against whom allegations of sexual misconduct were levelled and which, several months later, nothing is heard.
Regards,
Shamshun Mohamed
