Kaieteur Sports – Briton John continued his dominance on local cycling scene, securing a decisive victory at the 22nd Annual Macedo Memorial Cycle Road Race, held on Sunday.
The event, sponsored by Macedo Transportation Service, saw cyclists navigate the challenging route from Peter Rose Street in Queenstown to Mahaica (Old Road) and back to Lilliendaal for the thrilling finish.
In the Senior race, John delivered a masterful performance, crossing the finish line in 2 hours, 30 minutes, and 18 seconds (2:30:18s), beating long-time rival Jamual John by 44 seconds. Jamual, who clocked in at 2:31:02s, had to settle for second place position after witnessing Briton’s commanding display on the heated asphalt. Aaron Newton secured a well-earned third-place finish, while Robin Persaud, Quami Ridley, and Segun Hubbard rounded out the top six.
The Masters’ category saw standout performances as well, with Mark Spencer taking the top spot in the Over-50 race, while Robin Persaud claimed first in the Under-50 division.
Among the Junior’s, rising star Alexander Leung once again showcased his brilliance, claiming another first-place finish to solidify his status as the most consistent Junior cyclist in the country. Daniel Jaing and Alex Newton finished second and third, respectively. Dinesh Sookai took the top honours in the Juvenile category.
Sprint prizes were awarded to Briton John, Jamual John, and Robin Persaud for their exceptional performances in the 2024 edition of the Macedo Memorial Cycle Road Race.
