GNBS IN FOCUS
Waterfalls Magazine – The Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) took centre stage at GuyExpo 2023, targeting stakeholders with a showcase of its services dedicated to upholding quality and standards across various industries. Through a dynamic booth display and hundreds of conversations, the GNBS emphasized its commitment to empowering stakeholders through its calibration and testing services, and the monitoring of products to ensure consumer protection.
GuyExpo is the country’s largest trade and investment exposition which began in 1995 and was held annually between 2004 and 2016, and the GNBS never missed a beat as it relates to participation. After eight years of dormancy, GuyExpo returned in 2023 as an annual event coordinated by the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce.
This year’s expo is being held under the theme “Transforming Guyana Through Investment, Innovation and Resilience” from November 16 to November 19. It showcases locally produced goods and services, while providing a platform for businesses to increase their visibility and networking opportunities for growth.
Calibration and Testing: Precision Redefined – One of the key services on display at the GNBS booth was its calibration and testing services, which stand as pillars of precision in a multitude of sectors including construction, manufacturing, oil and gas, aviation and health. The GNBS team of skilled technicians demonstrated to visitors at its booth, the critical role of calibration in ensuring accuracy and reliability of measurements.
In a world where precision is paramount, GNBS’s calibration services support innovation and reliability of measurements, and as industries evolve, the demand for accurate measurements becomes increasingly crucial.
Product Inspection and Monitoring: Ensuring Quality – GNBS’s commitment to quality does not stop at calibration and testing; it extends seamlessly into the realm of product inspections. With the Christmas Season approaching, GuyExpo provided the ideal opportunity to educate thousands of visitors on the standards and requirements followed by the GNBS in the daily monitoring of the seventeen (17) categories of products offered for sale to consumers. These products range from children’s toys and play things, to decorative lighting and electrical equipment and fittings, which all undergo rigorous inspection to ensure compliance with relevant national standards.
With the use of appliances, electrical fittings, toys, shoes, tyres and other products, patrons witnessed firsthand how Inspectors of the GNBS examine these products to safeguard and assure consumers of the quality and safety of products they purchase.
No doubt, GuyExpo 2023 served as a phenomenal business opportunity for the GNBS. By putting the spotlight on its services, the grand event allowed the Bureau to reaffirm, in the minds of many of its stakeholders and the public, its position as the National Standards Body.
The Bureau will continue to actively participate in various expos held locally throughout the year, including the International Building Expo and the International Energy Conference and Expo. These platforms provide the GNBS with invaluable opportunities to promote quality and standards across sectors.
