Kaieteur News – Two Venezuelan nationals were arrested by police on Monday after they were busted with 11,000 grams of marijuana at the western end of the Demerara Harbour Bridge.
Police reported that about 05:15hrs, acting on information received, ranks were dispatched to the western end of the Demerara Harbour Bridge, where they conducted a road block exercise. During the exercise, police ranks stopped motorcar PPP 1521, which was proceeding east, with two Venezuelan nationals, who were identified as Kevyn De Jesus, 22, and Marcelino Marcos, 29, both of Lot 66 David Street, Kitty, Georgetown.
The two Venezuelan nationals at the police station along with the 11,000 grams of cannabis that was found.
A rank reportedly told the driver of his suspicions and requested to conduct a search on the vehicle and on them. Upon searching both men, ranks did not find anything illegal. However, when ranks searched the vehicle, they discovered a total of 15 compressed parcels. The parcels which were opened in the duo’s presence revealed a quantity of seeds, leaves and stems suspected to be cannabis. Both men were told of the offence committed, cautioned and they remained silent.
They were arrested and escorted to the La Parfaite Harmonie Police Station along with the narcotics, which amounted to 11,000 grams when weighed. Both suspects remain in custody pending further investigation and charges.
