– deletes video evidence
Kaieteur News – A GEB security guard on Saturday last allegedly “thrashed” her 18-year-colleague while they were on duty at Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD) and then deleted the video evidence from the victim’s cell phone.
The victim has been identified as Ellisa Lynch and according to her, she was attacked around 23:00hrs. The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Maurice Amres also confirmed the assault with Kaieteur News. He said the two employees had a misunderstanding with each other and it turned into an altercation. He assured that his company is dealing with the matter internally.
Lynch, however, has reported the assault to police and is alleging that she had a misunderstanding with the woman. The victim claims that since she started working with the company, the woman appeared to dislike her and has always been hostile to her.
“She would always be aggressive towards me, like yuh know throwing hints, mocking and so,” Lynch said, while adding that she had lodged a complaint against her colleague with the company but her concerns were never addressed.
Lynch continued that she began hearing rumours that the woman was annoyed at her because she was getting a better salary. On Saturday, they were on duty together and according to Lynch, the woman again began behaving hostile towards her. This time, however, Lynch claimed that she did not stay quiet and decided to confront the woman about her behaviour.
The woman allegedly became annoyed and started to behave disorderly. Lynch recalled that she took out her cell phone and began recording the woman. “She started beating on me”, said Lynch. Lynch reportedly managed to escape the angry woman but not before her alleged attacker managed to snatch her cell phone.
A fearful lynch did not try to get back her cell phone and kept running. “I went to the police station and then took a medical”, Lynch said, while explaining the beating left her with bruises and severe pain about her body.
“I was limping,” she continued.
Police subsequently went to arrest Lynch’s attacker but the woman allegedly locked the gates and refused to surrender. Lynch returned to her workplace the following day and was handed back her cell phone by the company’s CEO but there was no video evidence of the assault or recordings of confrontation they had. “She (the suspect) deleted the videos”, Lynch told Kaieteur News.
Lynch said that she wants her story to be heard, noting that before she was employed with GEB, she was assured that her safety would be its highest priority but nothing was done to protect her even after the assault took place.
“I took a medical and I was in pain that day when I went to collect my phone and they saw that because I was limping, and he (the CEO) started laughing”, Lynch alleged while adding that she was not even offered “any financial help to compensate for what happened to her on the company’s property”. Lynch is no longer working with the security firm.
