Digicel Schools’ National Football C/ship 2023…
Kaieteur Sports – Just one playing date remains after the semifinal round of the 8th Digicel Schools’ National Football Championship unravels this evening at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Ground, Carifesta Avenue, as the final four collide in a much-anticipated double-header.
Of the Ten Regional Champions this season, only one remains in the top bracket – the undefeated St. Ignatius, Region 9’s title holder.
St. Ignatius are fixed to thrash it out with Waramuri Top in the second match at 19:00 hrs while Desrey Caesar-Fox Secondary will lock horns with the ever-looming threat that is Carmel, in the opening match at 17:00 hrs.
When the tournament continued on Monday last, the quarterfinal round gave a clear picture of the gap of skill in the match-ups, which had three one-sided victories and a nail-biter.
In the first match, St. Ignatius stormed to victory with a commanding 5 – 1 win over Tucville then Carmel were almost flawless to eliminate Georgetown Champion, Dolphin, with a 3 – 1 score line.
Match three saw D.C Fox become the third semifinalist following a dominant 5 – 0 triumph over Charlestown while Waramuri Top claimed a hard-fought win over Santa Rosa, which ended 2 – 1.
This season’s Regional Champions are Santa Rosa (Region 1), Charity (Region 2), Leonora (Region 3), Region 4 (East Coast) – Buxton, Region 4 (East Bank) – Soesdyke, Region 4 (Georgetown) – Dolphin, Mahaicony TI (Region 5), Berbice Educational Institute (Region 6), Bartica (Region 7), Kato (Region 8), St. Ignatius (Region 9) and Mackenzie High (Region 10).
This edition of the tournament is organised by the Petra Organisation.
