Kaieteur Sports – The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) has recently granted Olympian, Chelsea Edghill a spot in the upcoming 2023 Pan American Games, adding to her already illustrious career as a national female champion and world-ranked table tennis athlete. Edghill is now set to take part of the much-awaited games which unfolds in Santiago, Chile, from October 20 to November 5, later this year.
The official announcement of Chelsea Edghill’s qualification was made yesterday, confirmed by Mohamed El-Dawlatly, ITTF PANAM Competitions Manager through correspondence. The news has sent waves of joy and anticipation among sports enthusiasts and fans of the talented athlete, whose dedication and hard work rightfully earned her a chance to showcase her skills on the international stage this year.
The Games are expected to be a thrilling affair with top athletes from across the Americas competing for glory in various sports disciplines, including table tennis. Chelsea Edghill’s participation promises to be a highlight, as she represents Guyana, and aims to bring home a medal for her country.
However, Chelsea’s journey to the Pan American Games was nothing short of outstanding. In 2014, she represented Guyana at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games, she also competed in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games later that year. In 2018, she earned herself the U21 Senior Caribbean title, unfortunately in 2019, she had an early departure at the PanAm games. In 2021, Edghill went on to represent Guyana at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, becoming the only female player to do so.
Notably, Edghill has also secured herself a place in the world rankings. Meanwhile, the twenty-six year old (Edghill) will now join Shemar Britton, who also qualified for the 2023 Pan American Games after an astounding performance in the qualifiers held in Lima, Peru, last month.
