Kaieteur Sports – On Wednesday, June 28th last at Burnham Court, Saints rallied from a dozen points down to pip Bishops by a single point on two clutch free-throws from Jabari Lovell in front of a boisterous Burnham Court crowd in the Georgetown final of the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG), ExxonMobil sponsored Schools Basketball tournament.
Leading Saints to victory were Brandon McCoy with 14 points, 5 steals, Alafin Joseph 8 points, 5 rebounds and Jabari Lovell 7 points, 4 rebounds. The top Performers for Bishop’s were Daniel Bayley 10 points, 10 rebounds, Yaneil Easton 10 points, 5 rebounds, 5 steals and Colwyn Stephens 8 pts, 14 rebounds.
This final completes the three-month-long Regional season which started in March and now the tournament will shift to the National School Basketball Festival, bringing together the best of the best in four divisions – Under 14, 16, and 18 boys, and under 18 girls for a shot at the National Championships.
The ExxonMobil National School Basketball Festival will tip-off on Saturday, July 1st at the National Gymnasium and continue for eleven playing days from 1 pm every day.
The Regional Conference and the NSBF are sponsored by ExxonMobil, with support from Edward B. Beharry, G-Boats GY and the National Sports Commission.
