Kaieteur News – An eighty-year-old man of Moblissa on the Soesdyke -Linden Highway had a lucky escape on Wednesday night after his home collapsed with him inside during a freak storm.
Winston Williams, who lived alone, was retiring to bed when a storm hit the area. His daughter told this publication that around 20:00hrs on Wednesday, a storm was passing over the area when the family heard a loud thud next door at her father’s home.
She said when the family peered out, she saw her father’s home on the ground. The single flat house stood some three feet off the ground. The woman said her son rushed over to check on his grandfather and he found the man sitting on the bed, drenched by the rains. The family immediately rescued him from the house.
The woman said her father has been living alone ever since her mother died from COVID-19 two years ago. “He cannot talk properly, and he tries his best to walk because he had a stroke,” she said of her father. “I don’t know what to say, since mommy died, he left shaky but we still try with our dad to ensure he is ok,” she explained.
Anyone who wishes to assist Williams can contact the family on 695-3413 or 646-2741.
