Kaieteur News – BOSAI Mineral Group (Guyana) Inc., a Chinese bauxite company operating in Linden, Region 10, wants its employees to sign an agreement barring them from speaking to the media.
Some employees are reluctant sign the agreement. According to them, the union does not represent them well and the media is the only medium through which they can voice concerns if an issue arises.
Kaieteur was able to obtain a copy of the agreement called “Code of Conduct and business Ethics”.
Part of the agreement labeled number four, speaks to “Media Relations and Disclosure of Information”.
According to the section, only the General Manager, Community Relations Officer and Industrial Relations Officer are allowed to speak on the company’s behalf.
“Unless authorized, no employee may give his personal opinion, disclose confidential information or discuss matters pertaining to the company to members of the news media and the public in general,” Section Four of the agreement stated.
The agreement also charges employees to inform their bosses when information is inadvertently released to the public.
