Kaieteur News – To benefit and support women and men in need of child-care services while at work, the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security is planning to spend some $169,266,000 to construct two day and night care centres in Regions Three and Four.
At the recent opening of tenders, it was revealed that the centre for Region Three is estimated to cost $85.3 million while the centre for Region Four is pegged at $83.8 million.
During the presentation of this year’s budget, Senior Minister of Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh had mentioned that this year the government made provision for the construction of these facilities with some $100 million being allocated for the projects.
In an interview with the Department of Public Information (DPI) back in April, Minister Dr. Vindhya Persaud had mentioned that they are to train personnel who would be responsible for the operations of the facilities.
“That training will commence within a month and this follows on the heels of the budget announcement that we are going to be constructing day and night care early childhood centres,” the minister had stated.
The centres aim to create a safe place for the nation’s children, and avenues for women to be gainfully employed. The initiative will also ensure access to trusted facilities for children.
