– Sanichara grabs 5 wickets for Essequibo Coast in OSCL’s tourney
Kaieteur Sports – Devon Rambaran missed out on a maiden century last Sunday in the second round of the 2023 Ontario Softball Cricket League (OSCL) Regular Season 20-overs competition reaching 95 not out at Ashtonbee Park, Scarborough in B Division.
The right-hander Rambaran slammed nine sixes and five fours to help Leguan Warriors beat Ramblers by five wickets with 16 balls to spare.
Warriors chased down Ramblers’ challenging 159-6 from 20-overs. Extras (39) was the other highest score for Leguan Warriors as Monty Dass grabbed five wickets for 13 runs from four tidy overs.
After Ramblers winning the toss and decided to bat, Dass led the way with a top-score of 32, while Richard Persaud chipped in with 26.
Rajindra Persaud (unrelated) snatched three wickets (hat-trick) for 41 runs from his maximum four overs. Naresh Bodo was also in the wicket-column with 2-24 in his four-over stint for the winning combination.
Across at Littles ground also in Scarborough, experienced Nicolas Sanichara bagged 5-24 off his four overs to pilot Essequibo Coast Cricket Club to an exciting one-run victory over Malvern Cricket Club.
Malvern Cricket Club was pursuing 134 for victory from the allotment of 20-overs eventually bowled out for 133 in the final over.
Carl Chowkai struck a fighting 50 including three sixes and two fours. Sanichara initiated the early disaster for Malvern having accounted for five of the six wickets to fall leaving Malvern Cricket Club precariously placed at 40-6. But Chowkai showed great determination to anchor things with a steady, 63-run seventh-wicket stand with Varun Balram (19).
Apart from Sanicahara, Ravendra Madholall picked up two wickets for 27 runs from his maximum four overs.
Earlier, Essequibo Coast Cricket Club called correctly at the toss and their innings was built around Tony Singh who made a top-score of 45 while Madholall contributed 23.
Meanwhile, details from the other games in a subsequent post, but the action continued yesterday with two matches in this Division. Essequibo Coast drew the bye. Malvern faced Ramblers at Littles while Leguan Warriors took on Bacchus Ruff Ryders at Ashtonbee Park.
Furthermore, details in Division A also in a subsequent post. Six teams are participating with Mercenary the reigning champion. A series of matches is also slated for today.
