Dear Editor,
Kaieteur News – The May 26, 2023 edition of the Kaieteur News carried the Address of His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, President of the Co – operative Republic of Guyana on the occasion of the country’s Independence anniversary. The Guyana Chronicle and the Guyana Times posted the identical article. I was shocked. I discovered to my chagrin that the national colours was displayed in an upside – down manner. Also the Golden Arrowhead was placed on the left of the President when its rightful place is on the right. I wonder when we will stop disrespecting our symbols of nationhood. I wrote about the disrespect before. The long established protocol is that whenever the national colours is displayed as it was the red must be on the top and not at the bottom as i observed in all the news outlets i alluded to above.
Is it an indication that things in Guyana at the highest level and elsewhere are upside – down?
Let us at all times show absolute respect for our Symbols of Nationhood – The flag – The Golden Arrowhead, The coat of arms, The anthem and The pledge as enshrined in the Constitution of the Co – operative Republic of Guyana.
May God help Guyana.
