Kaieteur News – Former Guyana youth player Shivanandan Madholall’s tenth death anniversary softball four-team cricket matches are set for April 16th at Reliance Sports ground, Essequibo Coast, Region 2.
Madholall passed away in 2013 at the age of 30 owing to Malaria.
However, his eldest brother Rovendra Mandolall stated that his family is excited to remember him with a day of cricket matches.
The four teams will feature in a 10-10 knockout basis before a final which will be a 15-overs affair.
“We [are] still saddened since his death but his contribution to cricket was massive and we are really looking forward to run off a four-team competition to mark his 10th death anniversary,” Mandolall mentioned.
Shivanandan Madholall represented Guyana at both under-15 and 19 levels while he played for his county at the various levels, too. On his cricketing credentials, Shivanandan captained a West Indies Under-19 development team at the regional youth tournament in 1999.
Rovendra Mandolall, who also would have played for Guyana at the under-19 level, informed that this is a significant year to commemorate his death. He has expressed his gratitude to all the teams for coming out on that day.
The four teams are: Marco Giants, Aneesa Rebels, BAC Kings and Shivanandan United. The two finalists will be changed to Rocky Warriors and Hamlet Gladiators.
According to Rovendra, since Shivanandan would have started his cricketing career at Reliance, a number of players are invited from his village and former Essequibo Inter-County players as well. Some names are: Beesham Seepersaud, Ramesh Narine, Rovindra Parsram, Ravi Beharry, Trevis Simon, Latchmikant Narine, Elroy Stephney, Roy Gonsalves and Shawn Narine among others.
Rovendra commented that ten trophies will be up for grabs for both team and individuals with outstanding performances. The two finalists will be wearing jerseys with Shivanandan’s photo inscribed. Mandolall is assuring fans that they will be treated with musical and dancing entertainment along with Facebook Commentary.
