Kaieteur News – Day two of the Petra-organised 2023 Milo Under-18 Secondary Schools Football Tournament was contested yesterday at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Ground, where Chase’s Academy made good on their much anticipated return to schools’ football in one of the four matches on the card.
Chase’s Academy’s scorers: Jude Daniels, Justin Alcindor, Manasseh Anderson, Wendell Pickett, Kerstyn Gonsalves and Neeiaz Baksh.
Westminster squeezed past Annandale, 3 – 2, in an intriguing encounter to start the action in the Nestlé/Massy Distribution-sponsored event yesterday then Charlestown secured a comfortable, 3 – 1, result against Berbice Educational Institute, Chase’s Academy blasted seven past Dora (7 – 0), who had no answer, and Ann’s Grove reigned supreme against Queen’s College, 5 – 2.
This weekend, March 11 – 12, the tournament is scheduled to resume at the same venue with another eight matches to be unraveled.
Saturday, Cummings Lodge is billed to meet Rosignol, Vryman’s Erven tackle Bishop’s High, Christianburg/Wismar go up against West Demerara Secondary School and Dolphin clash with St. Stanislaus College.
The following day, New Amsterdam spring into action against Santa Rosa, Charity collide with New Central High, Mackenzie High meet President’s College and West Ruimveldt challenge Vergenoegen.
In yesterday fixtures, Chase’s Academy recorded the victory with the largest margin as a complete team effort had Wendell Pickett (20’, 27’) scoring a double while Jude Daniels (69), Justin Alcindor (9), Manasseh Anderson (58’), Kerstyn Gonsalves (63’) and Neeiaz Baksh (65’) each supported with a goal each.
Daniel Murphy, Naron Jerrick, Leroy France and Joshua Perreira were responsible for Ann’s Grove victory.
Charlestown also had a comfortable win as Andrew Carto (21’), Jermaine Taylor (27’) Tyler Lyle (31’) all pierced the uprights once to overshadow the consolation goal from Berbice Educational Institute’s T’Jon Reid, which was scored in the 35th minute.
The opening game was one that became a nail biter near the end between Annandale and Westminster as the latter established a three-goal lead by the 60th minute compliments of Harod Haynes’ (48’, 58’) double and Samuel McAllister’s 19th-minute strike.
However, a goal from the opposition’s Osafo Brown (61’) and Jayden Harris (86’) along with a few minutes left to play caused Westminster to tighten up on defense and seal the win when the regulation time whistle sounded.
Ann’s Grove put forth a solid performance to secure a commanding win over Queen’s College in the day’s final match. The eventual victors had Naron Jerrick (4’, 7’) leading the way with a brace while Daniel Murphy (2’), Leroy France (58’) and Joshua Perreira (68’) accounted for the other goals. Jerrick assisted Queen’s College with an own goal in the 17th minute then they added one of their own when Menelek Ferreira found the back of the net in the 50th minute.
This, the ninth edition of the tournament, is sponsored by Nestlé (Milo), sanctioned by the Ministry of Education and Guyana Football Federation and supported by Massy Distribution, Guyana Industrial Minerals Inc. (GINMIN), General Equipment & Supplies, Inc. (GENEQUIP) and MVP Sports.
No contracts cast in stone, except Norton and Jagdeo own!
