Dear Editor,
I seek to fill a gap in information available that I owe to readers in the print media in Guyana. The Kaieteur News of October 20, 2020 published material which by legal advice I considered to be libelous. Consequently, I wrote to the Editor in Chief of the Kaieteur News drawing attention to this publication and requesting a retraction of or withdrawal the allegations against me written by Vassan Ramracha.
Please note I advised my counsel not to request an apology because I am fully aware that in many places persons in certain positions regard having to apologise to another human being as an act that detracts from the dignity of one who apologises.
I therefore left that question open and did not request it. To date, so far as I know, the newspaper has not let the public know that I had expressed an opinion on the allegations against me. The purpose of this letter is to fill that gap in information available to the public. In addition to this summary, I am attempting to repeat the warning to the newspaper and this time to direct it to the publisher to avoid any possible loophole in case the matter reaches the courts.
Yours respectfully,
Eusi Kwayana
