Kaieteur News – The $585 million Abram Zuil Secondary School located on the Essequibo Coast, Region Two that was slated to be completed last November will now be completed in March, Minister of Education Priya Manickchand revealed on Saturday.
In a Facebook post, the Minister disclosed that she visited the construction site on Friday and though she is disappointed that the school was not completed according to schedule, she is looking forward for its completion.
“It will be beautiful! Region 2 will enjoy universal secondary education before the end of this year!” the Minister expressed.
Kaieteur News was informed the school is already 85 percent completed and have by March month-end to complete. This publication understands that the building was unable to reach its November deadline due to the delaying of building materials for the project.
Work on the school began in 2021. Upon completion, the school which is being constructed by Builders Hardware and General Supplies will be a double-flat ‘E’ shaped building, with the capacity of housing some 750 students.
The building will also have a science laboratory, a cafeteria, a multi-purpose hall, and several fully air-conditioned offices and 23 classrooms.
The Ministry’s decision to rebuild the school was aimed at making the environment conducive to learning.
