Dear Editor,
The report that the international star was a no show at an event organised by the U.N backed organisation for people of African descent is troubling. A terse text message indicated the guest of honour would not be in attendance, even though, it is alleged, she indicated attendance earlier (SN Feb 2). No explanation it seems was offered for the change of mind in declining the invitation at the last minute leaving scores of attendees disappointed. This is unacceptable as it is disrespectful and a veiled undercurrent is sensed. Her standing in my eyes is diminished..
Regards,
Shamshun Mohamed
