Dear Editor,
President Irfaan Ali should be congratulated for inviting foreign and Caribbean financial institutions to come and invest in Guyana. No doubt their presence will greatly add to the rapid development of Guyana. What is unfortunate however is the absence, nay refusal of the PNC to be included in Guyana’s development.
First, it was Joseph Harmon’s refusal to recognise the lawfully elected PPP/C government. Up comes Aubrey Norton as the replacement Opposition Leader who recognised the government and fixed that problem. Now Norton has painted himself in a corner by refusing to shake hands with the President. He has nowhere to go. President Ali should be magnanimous and extend an open invitation for the record to come sit down and talk. This would exemplify a policy of inclusion which the American ambassador was touting. The President and Norton have much to talk about. There is the issue of the appointment of the Chief Justice and Chancellor of the judiciary. The solution to the impasse on these appointments can be solved by an open advertising of the two jobs. That way a fresh pool of candidates would be available to select from. That way a fresh start can be made.
Respectfully,
Sultan Mohamed
