Corentyne River and New Amsterdam team to clash
Kaieteur News – The finalists of the East Berbice Corentyne /Region 6 leg of the One Guyana Football Competition have been decided. The two teams making it to the final are North New Amsterdam and Siparuta. This was after the conclusion of two cliff hanger semifinal games played on Sunday at the Scott Church Ground, Princess Elizabeth Road, New Amsterdam, Berbice.
The games that were played saw Siparuta from The Corentyne River winning from Lower Corentyne 4-3.
The Corentyne River team after falling behind on two occasions held their composure, making sure that their over 120 miles travel was not in vain as they showed good resolve to squeeze home as victors.
The inform Ronald Felix led their charge with a triple in the 18th, 34th, 80th, while Jeffery Joseph hit home the sealer in the 82nd minute.
Scoring for Lower Corentyne were Kevin Williams, Compton Cudjoe and a own goal.
The North New Amsterdam team made full use of home advantage as they squeezed past South New Amsterdam 2-1 in a cliff hanger which went down the last whistle.
The final is slated for Saturday 26th at the same venue between North New Amsterdam and Siparuta.
North New Amsterdam will be looking to make full use of home advantage and their familiarity to the costal condition as they press for the win.
Siparuta on the other hand will want to make sure that their lengthy travel and stay away from home does not go in vain as the go in search of victory. (Samuel Whyte)
