My Testimony
By Sharmain Grainger
Kaieteur News – Have you ever considered how intricate and exquisite your anatomy is? Although many brilliant and innovative minds have been born into this world, not one has been able to fully understand, muchless replicate, the human anatomy – a creation of such high calibre. Indeed, whatever the mind can conceive human beings have been known to try; there is no doubt that some have attempted the impossible.
Without even reading the bible – the manual for life – I am well aware that there is a force; someone, much greater who created not just human beings but the entire breathtaking universe.
Given this awareness, which I am pretty sure no one in their right mind can deny, how can anyone believe for even a second that they have control of their own life? As such there is not a doctor or scientist who can offer you immortality; so please don’t believe that acquiring all the money in the world could afford you such a feat.
So since you have no control over you, why not aim to leave a righteous legacy?
For instance, if God has blessed you to earn more than you need, why not share some with the poor – those who can barely scrape a few morsels together to feed their family before retiring to bed with still unsatisfied stomachs? You don’t have to look very far to find vulnerable people to lend a helping hand.
However, I do understand that without God, it is simply a tough decision to be genuinely kind and willing to share. It wasn’t until God literally transformed my life that I realised that being selfish in this world makes no sense. I wanted to hoard everything for myself; everything was about me and my needs. But not anymore! You see God has put in my heart specific people who I must ensure are taken care of, and once you avail yourself to Him too, He will guide you to do the same.
No matter how prudent we are with our finances, by now we all know that we can’t carry a single dime with us when our time is up in this world, and our days are most definitely numbered.
My aim is not to be cryptic, rather I am frankly saying that it is important that we make ourselves available entirely to God so that we can become the best versions of ourselves, and this includes showing kindness where it is needed. Selfishness, I repeat, makes no sense!
In the bible, Christ Jesus told a story of a rich man which is very applicable to drive home my point. According to Luke chapter 12, verses 16 – 21: “[16] …A rich man had a fertile farm that produced fine crops. [17] He said to himself, ‘What should I do? I don’t have room for all my crops.’ [18] Then he said, ‘I know! I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones. Then I’ll have room enough to store all my wheat and other goods. [19] And I’ll sit back and say to myself, “My friend, you have enough stored away for years to come. Now take it easy! Eat, drink, and be merry!”’ [20] But God said to him, ‘You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?’ [21] Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.”
We can only have that rich relationship with God, through his son, Jesus. And so, I remind you that Jesus made it pellucid at John chapter 14, verse 6: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Let me tell you the truth about living for Jesus. It isn’t easy! In fact, He never promised that it would be easy. You will have to give up some friends, some prized possessions; you will literally have to deny yourself in order to have a close walk with Him. But it is so worth it! At Luke chapter 9, verse 23, Jesus said, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.”
Moreover, I assure you, it wouldn’t be possible for you to choose Jesus and something or someone else; a balancing act just won’t do. Until you are able to surrender ALL, you really haven’t committed fully to Him. But the secret to getting there, is literally asking Him to help you to choose Him above everything else; above material things and most importantly above life itself. According to Mark chapter 8, verse 36: “And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?”
It is the most peaceful and comforting to know that you are never alone, even if no other person is around. He simply can’t leave you or forsake you once you commit your life to Him. Jesus will guide every aspect of your life, in the best possible way, if you just let Him. There is absolutely no better way to live than to be completely dependent on The True and Living God.
You don’t have to bother yourself about what people will say about you – and people will utter snide remarks about you every now and then, believe me I know. Once you put your trust and confidence in Jesus and give Him your life fully, there is NOTHING or NO ONE who can hinder your walk with Him. At Proverbs chapter 3, verses 5 – 6, we are reminded: “[5] Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. [6] Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.”
I said earlier, living for Jesus can be hard sometimes. But Jesus did not hide this fact from us stating at John chapter 16, verse 33: “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Today, I can attest to the fact that even through hardships – and they will come in diverse forms – He is still working out the best possible solution for your life. This is owing to the fact “…that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose,” Romans chapter 8, verse 28.
