Kaieteur News – Former Berbice and Guyana U19 fast bowler Naresh Roopnarine, will be contributing towards the development of West Berbice cricket by sponsoring an U13 25 overs competition there.
Roopnarine indicated that during his playing days it was difficult to obtain cricket equipment and when he was selected to represent Berbice, he had to borrow cricket equipment and this motivated him to give back to the game.
He is urging the clubs in West Berbice to register for the competition so that the players will get an opportunity to hone their skills.
Roopnarine added that outstanding players will be receiving cricket gears.
Roopnarine is from the village of D’ Edward, West Berbice, and played his youth cricket for D’ Edward Sports club before moving to Blairmont community center.
He played first division cricket in West Berbice alongside players such as Nigel Wilson, Trevor Crawford, Eon Abel, Vibert Fraser and Hoosalram Lalsa.
The tournament is expected to commence shortly.
