Dear Editor,
We were calling for the opposition to challenge the oil contract and finally they did, motioning for full liability coverage for oil spills, the PPP shut it down, their reasons to do this sound so stupid I wonder if they think before speaking, however defending stupidity will sound stupid no matter how you say it. The recent summoning of the President and VP to the US most likely is for the protection rather than the renegotiation of the oil contract, the VP will probably be reminded of sanctions against him, his close allies and their families can recommence as they did during his presidency, if he only opens his mouth about renegotiation of the oil contract.
The PPP gave away the oil blocks, the Coalition gave away the oil, both parties gave away in secret and sinful dealings, however credit must be given to Former Pres. Granger who ordered the release of the oil contract against the wishes of the evildoers who wanted secrecy including the great son of the land Sir Sridath Ramphal. The PPP continues the oil business in secret plus refusing to provide to the public contracts for the mining and forestry sectors. The PPP is representing the oil companies against Guyana in lawsuits, the PNC did not do such. The PNC had a strong man head of the EPA who was looking out for Guyana; the PPP removed him and placed a rubber stamp. The PNC called for insurance, the PPP shut it down.
Guyanese it is now crystal clear, the oil companies is running the oil sector, not Guyana’s Leadership, the foreign companies are running the mining and forestry sectors, not Guyana’s Leadership, there will be no money coming to you from your oil and other resources, only debt and destruction of the environment and no liability insurance for environmental disasters for none of these sectors.
The Government rather than taking care of the daily issues of citizens, want investments for deep water harbour, hydro falls electricity, roads, airports, gas to shore and other large projects, these are projects designed more for the exploiters to cart off Guyana’s resources faster, rather than benefitting Guyanese, leaving Guyana with the debts incurred for these projects.
In finance, there is a measurement called debts to assets ratio, if wealth is going away and a nation takes on debt, when this ratio hits critical level, a country’s economy and currency collapses. Those who claim Guyana’s economy is growing, let them explain why the Guyana dollar is not appreciating or strengthening relative to the US dollar, as a stronger currency is the key indicator in growing economies.
The Government is committing large areas of arable land to the oil sector and other developments, this creates a danger to Guyana’s future food security.
In many resource-rich third world countries, particularly in Africa and the Middle East that collapsed through foreign exploitation, there were many citizens who saw through the illusion googly, spun by the exploiters of “development and great prosperity”. For the exploiters to keep the exploitation system going, they found a puppet government protected by an army, trained, and financed by foreign mercenaries, they ended up killing thousands of people, even millions across Africa and the Middle East, men, women, children, activists, opposition politicians, NGO’s, journalists, professionals and people of all walks of life.
Thankfully, it looks like this mass killing method will not be used in Guyana, it likely will be ethnic racial violence and divisiveness, every time the PPP base rebelled against them, during the Jagan, Jagdeo, Ramotar and now Ali’s administration, there was always a breakout of racial violence, whether accidental or intentional. I don’t know, the fact it happened must be mentioned, now the farmers and fishermen are now rebelling against PPP, the President and VP ran around the sugar estates preaching their nonsense, the workers didn’t buy it, resulting in strikes at Uitvlugt and Albion Estates, the PPP is losing their base. I urge media and other people of influence to be aware and speak out now about the potential for racially motivated violence.
So Guyanese, you face danger from having a secretive and corrupt government and an inept opposition working for the foreign companies and not for you. You face the danger of an economy and currency collapse, you face danger from an uninsured environmental disaster; you face danger from a future breakout of racial violence, food shortages plus government failures in all other aspects of your daily living. The poor are already being affected by the dangers. Guyanese who think they have it comfortable, should note that in collapsed countries, these dangers hit all at once or very close together with little or no warning, like a category five hurricane and people’s way of life change dramatically, suddenly, and abruptly for the worse, realising then when it’s too late, that they should have fought earlier to protect themselves, fellow citizens and their country from these dangers. SO YOU SHOULD JOIN THE FIGHT NOW!
Guyanese are starting to wake up to reality, but too slow to affect the massive theft of our oil, minerals, and timber, maybe Glenn Lall should contact cricketers and entertainers to join the fight, as the great cricketers and entertainers are more popular and influential than other Guyanese citizens.
Where is the BETTER MANAGEMENT/RENEGOTIATION OF THE OIL CONTRACTS you promised Jagdeo?
