Canada-based Guyanese Vishaul Balram struck a belligerent, unbeaten 118 to spur Leguan Warriors to a convincing 105-run win over All-Stars on Sunday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Academy ground in Scarborough in the continuation of the 2022 Ontario Masters Softball Cricket Clubs (OMSCC) Over-40, 20-overs competition.
The right-handed Balram clobbered 12 sixes and four fours as Leguan Warriors piled up a formidable 212-3 from the 20-overs, while All-Stars only replied with 107-5 when the 20-overs ran out.
Balram also shared a steady and captivating 110-run second-wicket partnership with experienced player Richie Sukhram who contributed an attacking 39 laced with three sixes and two fours after the fall of skipper and former Essequibo Under-19 player Andy Monasar (06).
There was one wicket each for captain Subhas Seelochand, Charlie Yakub and Wayne Barret. When All-Stars batted, Surendra Persaud made 20 and 17 from Yakub. Balram returned with the ball to take 2-17 from his maximum three overs to display his all-round capability, while Ashtaq Mohamed claimed 2-18 off three overs and Naresh Bodo had a wicket.
Details from the other matches in the 8-team competition were not available but the competition is set to continue on Sunday with a bunch of matches across the Greater Toronto Area.
Meanwhile, Balram expressed ecstasy with his outstanding batting performance. Balram, who hails from Canal Number 1, West Bank Demerara, stated that he was thrilled to register a century as well.
