Kaieteur News – Some 16,288 primary students countrywide have registered to write this year’s National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) (Common Entrance) which begins today and concludes tomorrow.
The exams, which will be written in adherence to all COVID-19 protocols, will be testing pupils on topics up to the Grade Five consolidated curriculum, inclusive of the Grade Four consolidated and normal Grade Three curricula.
As reported, the consolidated curriculum, which was introduced last year, was designed by the Ministry of Education to enable pupils to get back on track with work they missed after being away from schools for a while. Schools in Guyana had been closed since March 2020 and had reopened back in September last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The NGSA, which will be written at approximately 509 centres this year, will see pupils writing both English and Science today, while Mathematics and Social Studies will be written tomorrow. In each subject area, the assessments consist of two papers – Paper One with multiple choice questions and Paper Two with essay type or open-ended questions.
Last year approximately 13,821 children wrote the examination at some 503 centres. And like last year, the Ministry will be collaborating with the Caribbean Examinations Council to conduct and mark the examination papers.
