Kaieteur News – Former Guyana Under-19 captain Eugene LaFleur produced a terrific all-round performance on Sunday for Amazon Kings in another round match of the 2022 Mississauga Cricket League T20 Super8 competition at Danville ground. His team Amazon Kings were able to chalk up a comfortable 37-run victory over Imperials Cricket Club.
LaFleur hit an impressive 45-ball 81 to see Amazon Kings tallying up a respectable 166-8 from the 20-overs and then returned with his left-arm spin to snatch 5-13 from his maximum four overs as Imperials Cricket Club were bowled out for 129 in the 20th over. The left-handed LaFleur, who has been playing professionally in North America for a number of years now, cracked ten fours and two sixes. Extras was the other notable score of 24, while another ex-Guyana youth player Harrienarine Chattergoon chipped in with 16.
Seamer Jasim Qadoos bagged three wickets for 22 runs from four overs while Zain Malik and Ahmed Owais took two wickets each to offer support.
When Imperials Cricket Club batted, Satnam Walia staged a fight-back with an unbeaten 49 which counted three sixes and two fours. Malik returned with the bat to make 25 before he retired hurt.
Apart from LaFleur who stole the headline with the ball, Chattergoon was also instrumental with his off-breaks by collecting 2-14 from 3.5 overs while skipper and former Guyana youth player Dennis Legay took one wicket.
The competition is set to resume on Sunday with four matches being played simultaneously across the Mississauga Municipality. Amazon Kings, a team made up predominantly with Canada-based Guyanese, will clash with Fusion at the same venue. Some of the other players in the lineup are: Devon Ramnauth, Kevin George, Jeremy Gordon and Riaz Kadir, while Aftab Shamsudeen and Abdool Samad represented Canada at the highest level, including World Cup. Samad is the younger brother of former Guyana first-class opener Fazil Sattur.
Meanwhile, Legay is optimistic his team will continue to win on a regular basis after they would have suffered four defeats in their six matches so far. Notably, one game was abandoned due to rain.
