GCF/NSC three-stage road race…
Akil Campbell is poised to take the overall male title while Clavecia Spencer is set to take the female crown as the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF)/National Sports Commission (NSC) Independence Youth and Culture Three-stage road race commenced on Saturday.
Campbell and Raynauth Jeffrey were dominant in the first stage which commenced in the Town of Corriverton and proceeded to New Amsterdam for the finish, a distance of 40 miles.
The duo from Team Foundation did well to break away from the pack with Campbell crossing the finish line ahead of Jeffrey. The both clocked one hour, 47 minutes and 13 seconds. Deeraj Garbarran placed third in a time of 1 hour, 51 minutes and 28 seconds. Clavecia Spencer won the female division ahead of Denise Jeffrey.
Meanwhile, Jamual John overpowered his rivals to win the second stage which pedaled off from New Amsterdam and ensued to Carifesta Avenue, Georgetown, spanning a distance of 60 miles.
John crossed the finish line in 2 hours 35 minutes and 35 seconds while Curtis Dey placed second with an equivalent timing. David Hicks placed third in a time of 2 hours, 37 minutes and 10 seconds. For the Women, Spencer once again bested Denise Jeffrey in the second stage.
The third and final stage will pedal off today from 07:30hrs in the mining Town of Linden and culminate at Homestretch Avenue in Georgetown, a distance of 65 miles. The presentation of prizes will be done at the conclusion of this stage. (Zaheer Mohamed)
