Kaieteur News – Twenty-five women of Agricola, Georgetown, were on Mother’s Day honoured by Lady Ira and The L.I.F.E Center of Agricola, for their contributions to their community.
The event titled “Hats off to Women” took place at the LIFE Centre which is located at Remus Street Agricola. The event featured 25 women who served Agricola community over the years.
Ten of the women received awards while the others received surprise gifts, which include hampers and cash.
The L.I.F.E Center is the brainchild of Lady Ira Lewis, a Guyanese resident in New Jersey, USA, who has been giving back to the community through activities organised through the members of L.I.F.E Centre. Those programmes are aimed at young adults, support for some residents, as well as books distribution.
President of the organisation, Reverend Dr. Joy Agnes yesterday at the event stated: “we cater for the less fortunate; we cater for people that want to learn life skills, youths and adults alike. So what we do is give back to the community in more than one way in building the community and to helping them be self-aware of what is going on and the skills that we offer.”
She further shared that the organisation only came into existence last year and since then it has been giving back to the Agricola community. The organisation will be celebrating its first anniversary with a week of activities that starts from June 19- 25.
