Sports Minister Charles Ramson Jr. (C), GBBC President Peter Abdool and DOS Steve Ninvalle with boxers and promoters.
Kaieteur News – The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport warmly welcomed the Panamanian fighters to Guyana today and told them that the friendliness ends when they enter the squared circle.
“It is my pleasure to have you all here and my country welcomes you but remember that only two winners will emerge from this magnificent event…and of course our entire country will be out there supporting Elton Dharry and Dexter Marques,” said Minister Ramson.
The Director of the National Sports Commission Steve Ninvalle explained that it was important for the public to know that the fighters were in country and ready to fight, “There will be no excuses or cancellation of this double WBC International Title they are here and ready to go to battle.”
Speaking with confidence, the undefeated Orlando Penalba stared down Elton Dharry and boldly predicted that he would remain lossless and return to Panama with the belt, “I am a sergeant in our military and when I fight I fight to win!”
Dharry meanwhile quietly predicted that this would be a tough fight but one that his experience and strength would make him emerge victorious. “I’m not going to disappoint my thousands of fans and fellow Guyanese on Saturday at the Stadium.”
Promoter Aleem Hussain said, “With the extraordinary assistance being provided by the Minister and the various departments under his control, we are now in a position to provide the greatest show in recent boxing history. This is the first time that we have experienced such cooperation and the Minister has led by example in ensuring that every aspect of the promotion is covered.”
The Fight will be broadcast locally and internationally according to the head of NCN Mr. Neaz Subhan, “We have done several events with the Guyana Boxing Board and are confident that Devon and our team will deliver excellent quality and companies can advertise with us at extremely competitive rates on the 23rd.”
In addition to the packed action in the ring, there will be a halftime show put on by HJ Entertainment featuring top local artistes and dance to showcase Guyanese talent to the world.
