Ivan Madray XI wins tournament; final match set for Saturday
Kaieteur News – The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) is currently hosting a three match tournament as it continue preparations for the upcoming Guyana Cricket Board Under-15 Inter County tournament. The BCB Selection Committee, chaired by Balram Samaroo last weekend had named three teams to play in the three match tournament to come up with a 15-member team.
The three teams were named after the first three test players from the county, John Trim, Rohan Kanhai and Ivan Madray. On Saturday last, the Ivan Madray XI defeated John Trim XI by five runs at Albion Ground and returned on Wednesday to defeat Rohan Kanhai X1 by 120 runs at the Jai Hind Ground.
On Saturday, Madray XI batting first were dismissed for 129 off 49.5 overs with Jayden Edwards 29, Dave Prettipal 19, Sohail Mohamed 15 and Aiden Semple 10 the leading scorers. Bowling for Trim XI; Gilbert Griffith took 2-13 with one apiece for Arif Khan, Matthew Perriera and Akash Sukhlall.
In response Trim XI were dismissed for 124 from 47 overs. Vishal Williams 28, Farhan Ballee 12 and Navin Boodwah 11 top scored while Engrique Mickle snared 3-13 and off-spinner Richard Ramdehol, 2-3, Dave Prettipal and Abdullah Azad took a wicket apiece as well.
On Wednesday last, the eventual champions batting first rattled up an imposing 256 for 9 from their 50 overs with skipper Sohail Moahamed top scoring with 49; he received support from Razam Kobeer with 34, Adrain Hetmyer 31 and Dave Pretpal 24.
The most successful bowlers for Kanhai XI were Ravin Boodwah 3-10, Yoganand Mohan 2-17 and Rosahwn Crandon 1-22.
Needing 257 from 50 overs to win, Kanhai XI were bowled out for 130 runs from 37.3 overs. Ricardo Ramdehol was the leading batsman with 24, Roshawn Crandon 20 not out and D. Samaroo 19.
Bowling for Madray X1, Lall Behari had 2-11 and G. Mickle 2-13. The final match would be played tomorrow at the Chesney Ground between the Rohan Kanhai XI and John Trim XI. The BCB Selectors would select the Berbice team on Sunday. The matches are being sponsored by BCB overseas donor, Dr Tulsi Dyal Singh.
