Dear Editor,
Kaieteur News – This is to draw the attention of the international community to the untenable situation created by the United Kingdom and its unfair policies as it relates to employing nurses.
Any nurse that has worked in Guyana, even those that have come from countries such as India on a contract, is being employed by the UK. We in Guyana cannot reasonably be expected to give remunerations equal to those being offered by the UK. These policies by the UK have created a severe shortage in the Guyana nursing sector and should be raised at the intergovernmental level. The UK has the wherewithal to train its own nurses and should not be scavenging nurses from the Caribbean.
Regards
Shazad Sookram
