Kaieteur News – The Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF) successfully hosted their Female Volleyball Festival last Sunday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) on Homestretch Avenue.
The tournament had five teams participating, namely, Castrol Strikers, Berbice Females, Premier Eagles, Laluni and Pakuri Warriors that came out victorious.
Due to a late start, with four teams, a round-robin commenced until the fifth team arrived. However, by the third round, Laluni and Premier Eagles fell short and were eliminated.
A semifinal was then contested between Berbice Females and Castrol Strikers. Castrol Strikers emerged winners and advanced to the finals with Pakuri Warriors who eventually won, 25-22, 14-25 and 15-13.
Recipients of prizes were:
1. Third place trophy- Berbice Females.
2. Second place trophy – Castrol Strikers.
3. First place trophy – Pakuri Warriors.
4. Best Spiker – Camiza LaCruz of Pakuri Warriors.
5. Best Setter- Alliana Charles of Castrol Strikers.
6. Most Senior player – Sunita Causway – Pakuri Warriors.
7. Most promising player- Tiea Isaacs – Berbice Females.
8. MVP TROPHY and $10,000, Compliments of Trophy Stall and Heavy Equipment Technical Training Institute – Camiza La Cruz – Pakuri Warriors.
The national team has been shortlisted and will be announced soon.
