Dear Editor,
Re your article: ‘Overseas – based Guyanese says new firefighting measures urgently needed in Guyana’ Nov. 27, 2021 News.
I was utterly disgusted when I read the following “We have fire hydrants as monuments in Guyana. They function just like Cuffy. They do nothing. They just stand there. You turn on the fire hydrant, there is no water coming out.”
As an analogy, simile, or whatever the author intended, I find the comparison totally inappropriate and unacceptable.
! – A denigration of National Symbols?
2 – A subliminal message?
3 – A ‘Freudian slip?
4 – ?
I will share this missive with the African Cultural Development Association, and others who salute the struggles of my African Ancestors.
I will confront any attempt to denigrate their legacy.
Yours,
George Daniels
