No way is the PPP/C going to lose any elections here
Dear Editor,
Elections 1992 under the reformed electoral system saw the institution of the real winner of elections in Guyana and the coming to office of the PPP/C. It also witnessed a heavy defeat for the incumbent PNC, a loss that it would not take kindly to, hence, the violence that ensued. Georgetown became a towering inferno, as shops and businesses of persons perceived to be PPP/C supporters were looted, while others went up in flames. This was to become a pattern of the sore losers.
In 1997, the defeat was even greater with the Late Mrs. Janet Jagan, gaining a landslide victory at the polls. Again this did not go down well with the PNC, which took to the streets. There was the usual looting, shooting and burning in the capital, which in the sum total of it all saw Mrs. Jagan withdrawing from power and the assumption of the young Bharrat Jagdeo as president. The young and seemingly inexperienced Jagdeo spurred the PNC to believe that they could intimidate him and as such return to illegal power, but that was a mistaken belief. Because with the law on our side, coupled with the successes of governance, there was no way the PPP/C was going to lose any election held here.
So, the PPP/C continued its winning ways forging ahead with development with each win. Now, the PNC was determined to change that trend, so it came up with a plan to sabotage the system right at the very heart of it.
That plan was hatched by one of the members who sit on the opposition benches at GECOM. His plan embraced the creole proverb which says, “If you can’t beat them, then join them,” meaning undermine those at the top of the electoral system. Thus, the plan to sabotage CEO Gocool Boodhoo, to make it appear that he was the one responsible for the PPP/C’s victories and not victories based on merit.
The plan worked, in that Boodhoo was undermined and promptly gotten rid of. The way was now clear for the PNC’s rigging machinery to be installed again. Boodhoo was replaced by Lowenfield, other posts such as the deputy CEO and the IT Technician, all of these were promptly filled by lackeys affiliated to the PNC Regime. In addition to those in the top places who are now before the court, I must tell you that there are others at the polling stations in PNC strongholds, who are known to falsify figures.
I am, therefore, putting them on guard, fraudsters beware! Those who are so programmed to commit fraud will get jail time for their nefarious acts.
So, there you have it, the slow, insidious movement to whittle away at the results and forge a win for the losers. First it was the minority government of the PPP/C in 2011, to the highly controversial so called “close win” for the Coalition in 2015.
I must pause here, to explain the reason for the PNC’s hatred for the international community, The USA in particular when it comes to electoral matters. Be it known that it was on the US, Ambassador’s insistence that (Donald) Ramotar was forced to forego his claims of false SOP’s Statement of Polls) in the courts and that, “let it go’ in the interest of peace, that brought the PNC-controlled coalition to power.
The results of the 2015 elections have nothing in them that made for a certified victory for the Coalition, if those results were to undergo a verification process then many skeletons would come tumbling out of their closets.
So, not wanting to expose themselves in public the PNC would have liked the USA to do the same again as in 2015, that is, turn a blind eye to the flagrantly flawed results and accept them as winners. The USA for their part did not facilitate the fraud, thus they became the deep-seated enemy.
So electoral reform is mandatory given the circumstances highlighted above. It is certainly a blessing for this nation and for all of us who support a free and transparent system. For the Opposition who are determined to rig, it is a curse, I ask you dear readers to choose which side you would like to be.
Respectfully submitted,
Neil Adams
