Table Tennis player Miguel Wong, who will be representing Guyana at both the Panam Junior and Senior Championships next month, has benefited from a timely investment from the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) at the value of US$8,000 for him to attend a high-performance training Camp in Germany for which he departed last night.
The presentation was done yesterday at the GOA’s Lilliendaal Headquarters where President, K.A. Juman-Yassin revealed that the sum, which was accrued based on a proposal from the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), will cover all of the lad’s expenses to the Topspin Tischtennis Centre in Bad Aibling, Germany.
This will be Wong’s second training stint in Germany after spending a year in 2019 and he noted that the training will be very useful since many of the top players in the upcoming Panam championships will be at the camp so he will be able to better prepared for the high level of competition.
During the conference, Wong also mentioned that his realistic goal will be to make the top eight of the first ever Panam Junior Championships. Head of the GTTA, Godfrey Munroe, who is also the vice-president of the GOA, when quizzed on what is in the pipeline for 14-year-old Jonathan van Lange who has also qualified for the Junior Panam championships, he noted that the association has so far intensified his training and are currently working on a proposal to submit to the GOA.
