Dear Editor,
Your Editorial in yesterday’s KN was carefully crafted to exclude the cause of fire, whether or not it was arson and who is to be blamed. I cannot understand why you have chosen to editorialise in such a drab and boring manner.
The reader wants to know if it was arson and if it was, why it was done. If it was arson, it would surely give us a picture into the thinking of the individual(s) who never gave a second thought to the destruction they were causing. Or maybe they did intend to cause chaos and destruction. Are they going to get away with the damage they’ve done? We need to know.
It is important that your Editorial gets to the heart of the matter and that involves the poor response of the Fire Department as we all witnessed on Saturday morning.
This editorial you’ve penned in today’s KN is weak and lacking. The Brickdam Police Station fire points to a greater problem existing in our midst which must be addressed. It revealed a systemic illness existing throughout the public services and in society.
The President was disgusted with the professionalism and readiness of the Fire Department. How do you feel about this? Can you shed some light into what was behind the poor response from the Fire Department?
I have been reading your editorials for quite some time and I know you are unrelenting with your point of views and unafraid to meet the subject head on.
The editorial yesterday is a far cry from what we’ve come to expect from you.
Dennis Balgobin
Editor’s Note: Your critique is well received.
