Dear Editor,
The US Ambassador spoke of companies complaining of the difficulties of doing business in Guyana. I believe her. I believe the company reps. Guyana is a backward society because successive governments refuse to hire competent people. They hire clueless political hacks who do not have any interest in building a better society.
This current government will not do any better. The current government has too many lawyers with ministerial portfolios. Lawyers are not innovators and strategic thinkers. Lawyers are trained to portray confidence and are always looking backwards and referring to precedence. It was the same with the last government. Most of the senior persons in the coalition government were lawyers. It is clear they were rudderless and just circling bereft of ideas or future plans for developing the country.
After more than a year of the Ali headed government, except for a few roads building projects, and sharing out cash grants to keep the economy afloat, everything else seems to be at a standstill. The Minister of Finance is a bean counter and clueless about growing the economy. President Ali must seriously embark on a major cabinet reshuffle. Also, hire competent persons to build the kind of progressive systems, both administrative and technical, for a modern society. It’s the only way to not only attract investors but also ensure those investors remain.
Sincerely,
Harrish Singh
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
