Kaieteur News – A miner in Black Water Backdam, Kanowaruk River, Region Eight, was killed yesterday after a tree fell on him.
Ken Wilson, 25, aka ‘Short Man’ of Katoonarib Village, South Rupununi, Region Nine, died at around 18.30 hours yesterday while on duty.
According to information given by police, a 61-year-old male of Berbice Road, Mackenzie, was transporting fuel to Black Water Backdam in a motor Lorry #GLL 7502. On heading up a hill along the trail, the lorry got stuck in a muddy ditch.
The man then decided to attach a wire rope, which was connected to his truck via a winch, to a tree in order to pull the lorry out. When he attempted to operate the winch, the tree the wire was connected to, fell, hitting Wilson who was standing in proximity, pinning him to the ground. As a result, he received critical injuries and lost consciousness.
Wilson was subsequently picked up and rushed to the Mahdia Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body is at the Hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination. Investigation is ongoing.
