Kaieteur News – Raj Singh, President of the Cricket West Indies Masters Association (CWIMA) has written to President of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Bissoondyal Singh, seeking the support of the board in aiding the Masters body to gain membership to the Regional Board, Cricket West Indies (CWI).
In his letter, Raj Singh offered congratulations to the GCB head of him attaining the office. “Firstly, please accept our organization’s congratulations on your election as the President of the Guyana Cricket Board. Please also accept our best wishes on behalf of your entire team at the GCB and we trust that we can work together closely to promote cricket throughout the length and breadth of Guyana.”
He continued, “Cricket West Indies Masters Association was created to fill a void that existed for several years, that is, the administration of masters’ cricket within the Caribbean. We have no intention of encroaching on any of the mandate of the GCB but would appreciate working together for the overall development of this beautiful game of cricket. We have started to have similar structures set up in all the islands of the Caribbean. Barbados and Trinidad already have established structures and we have just started the Big Man Cricket-Guyana organization in Guyana. We are working with various groups to have structures set up in Jamaica, Windward Islands and the Leeward Islands.
You may be aware that we took a West Indies Over 50s team to the Over 50s World Cup in Cape Town, South Africa last year but, unfortunately, this tournament was aborted due to the COVID pandemic during the 3rd round matches. This tournament is expected to be replayed again in Cape Town in 2022 and, once again, we are expected to be represented there. We are also planning bilateral and other series with other Over 50 teams around the world. Over 50s cricket is growing rapidly around the world,” Raj Singh informed.
He concluded by informing the GCB boss of their application to CWI for membership and requested the support of the GCB in their quest.
“Last month, we applied to Cricket West Indies to become a special member of that cricket body. We will also be encouraging our local member, BMC-G to apply to the GCB to become an associate member. We expect our application to be heard at the next Board of Directors meeting of the CWI and would appreciate your support as one of the Directors of CWI on the consideration of the application. Several cricket boards around the world have already accepted their Over 50s organizations as associates or special members as these masters are now engaged in healthy and active lifestyles and surely can be called upon to serve your Board in various capacities such as coaches, scorers, match referees, administrators, mentors, etc.”
The letter was also carbon copied to GCB Vice President Hilbert Foster,
who is also a Director on the CWI board as the second Guyana representative.
