Kaieteur News – The KMPA Foundation in a release disclosed that Juvonna Cornette of Tytans Athletics Club has been accepted into Central Arizona College on a full Scholarship.

Coach Andy Medas-King has been instrumental in highlighting opportunities for Guyanese athletes to enhance their academics and athletics and organise varying forms of aid.
Juvonna Cornette, happens to be the daughter of one of Guyana’s former National Sprint Champions, Junior Cornette. Juvonna, who went to Diamond Secondary School on the East Bank of Demerara and lives in Little Diamond and would be studying Business and Professional Industries at Central Arizona College, is self driven, self motivated and is determined to become an Olympian and represent Guyana at the 2024 Olympic Games.
Juvonna, who ran a PR of 11.90 in the 100m and a PR of 24.85 in the 200m said that she’s confident of running a sub11 time and definitely under 23 seconds for the 200m. Juvonna said April this year was the best month for her
and being fully accepted into Central Arizona College was the crowning moment.

Juvonna Cornette of Tytans Athletics is the latest Guyanese athlete to get a US College scholarship.
She explained that although she had dreamed of one day going on to college, she became more determined last year. ‘I don’t know if you guys remember, but last year the KMPA Foundation under the leadership of Coach Andy Medas-King invited 14 of us to compete in the USA at the New Balance National in New York City, everything was going well until the Pandemic hit and we were stuck there for 4 months. During that time we were exposed to some high quality training and I was wondering if I should continue or quit because I have never trained that hard before in my life, but then my father spoke with me and then I realized that in order to make it I have to work extra hard. What also motivated me was all the stuff that were being said about Mr. Andy Medas-King by coaches and people in Guyana.
Now if it wasn’t for the opportunity that was given to us I wouldn’t be able to attend College now and wouldn’t be running the times I’m running now, thanks to the KMPA Foundation for opening our eyes to opportunities.’
‘Today all the athletes who were there in the USA are doing great in Guyana now and it’s all because of the opportunities that were given to us. The amount of support we get from the KMPA Foundation it’s hardly mentioned on the media platform in Guyana it’s not published regularly, in any News Papers or television shows or you hear it being mentioned nor debated on sports programmes.’
Cornette said that organizations like the KMPA Foundation should be recognized for the wonderful work they are doing in all ten regions of Guyana.
